Planet-Transforming Microbes Cycle Carbon: Understanding how Emiliania huxleyi and other ocean microbes cycle carbon and other important elements is a focus of the Genomics:GTL program. Deposits left behind by the calcium carbonate shells of large numbers of E. huxleyi have created the White Cliffs of Dover on the southern coast of England-- - an indicator of their pervasiveness and, ultimately, influence on these ecosystems.
